Pen y ghent or penyghent is a fell in the yorkshire dales, england. it is the lowest of yorkshire's three peaks at 2,277 feet (694 m); [1] the other two being ingleborough and whernside. [2] it lies 1.9 miles (3 km) east of horton in ribblesdale. [3] it has a number of interesting geological features, such as hunt pot, and further down, hull pot. A yorkshire classic, pen y ghent, is many people’s first peak. this circular route starts from horton in ribblesdale, climbs gently up brackenbottom scar, and then follows the pennine way on the climb to the 694m high summit. on the way you can visit the impressive hunt and hull pots, before following the walled horton scar lane back into horton. Pen y ghent is one of the famous three peaks of yorkshire and, together with ingleborough, is probably the most recognisable fell in the dales. often spelt 'penyghent', pen y ghent is a rare example of the survival of a pre anglo saxon name for a pennine summit. no one knows for sure what the name actually means. As we started to ascend we’ve noticed behind us was pen y ghent and the sun rising, the perfect start for a good walk. the ascent to ingleborough is gradual and only after few miles you can see the peak. ingleborough (723 m or 2,372 ft) is the second highest mountain in the yorkshire dales. Pen y ghent peak sits in the yorkshire dales national park and is the lowest of the three peaks. it sits at 2,227 ft, with ingleborough and whernside peaks towering over. this magnificent peak is made out of millstone grit top and lays on top of a carboniferous limestone. the water that flows through this peak ends up in the irish sea.
